Korbelin & Grasic to Lead Palm Pictures
Producers Jan Korbelin & Marina Grasic to
Become Managing Partners;
Founder, Chris Blackwell, to Continue as Chairman
NEW YORK, NY, November 20, 2007 – Palm Pictures, a leading independent multimedia company and distributor in, theatrical, home video and converging digital markets, today announced the first step aimed at expanding Palm’s profile in feature film and cross-platform media. Effective immediately, industry veterans and award-winning producers, Jan Korbelin and Marina Grasic (executive producers Crash, Alpha Dog) will become managing partners, and entertainment industry legend and Palm Pictures’ Founder, Chris Blackwell will assume a more involved role in the future growth of the company as Chairman.
“We’re extremely excited to have Jan and Marina as partners in the Palm family,” notes Blackwell, “each bring a unique blend of creative, managerial and financial expertise and present the optimal profile to help achieve my vision of making Palm a dominant player in existing and emerging media. Their previous work demonstrates a consistent alignment with the Palm vision.”
Korbelin and Grasic offer a wide area of expertise, which includes production, finance, management and marketing in film and television. Most recently they have Executive Produced such diverse feature films as the Oscar® Award winning Crash, written and directed by Paul Haggis; “Alpha Dog”, written and directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Justin Timberlake, Bruce Willis, and Sharon Stone; and, the upcoming motion pictures “Flashbacks of a Fool”, starring Daniel Craig; “Smart People”, starring Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church; and the highly touted “The Lucky Ones”, directed by Neil Burger and starring Tim Robbins and Rachel McAdams.
Korbelin states that he is “determined and energized by the challenge and the opportunity to partner and work with an entertainment industry pioneer such as Chris Blackwell. We intend to build upon Palm’s rich heritage in quality cutting edge cinema, and create an organization focused not just on the development of highly creative and entertaining content, but also on developing new distribution platforms through which that content will be delivered.”
Grasic’s work at Palm will be primarily focused upon aggressively expanding the production and acquisition divisions across all platforms. “With the retreat of so many long time leaders in the independent film sector, the time is right for Palm to aggressively assert it’s position and I look forward to working with Jan and Chris to make Palm synonymous with quality independent film.”
Korbelin and Grasic’s background each boast a long list of achievements. Korbelin was an Executive Producer on the Emmy Award winning film “Reefer Madness” for Showtime, and was nominated for an Emmy in association with Executive Producing Nickelodeon’s “Zoey 101.” He is the former President of Entertainment and News & Information of ProSieben Television, one of the most successful and highly regarded television networks in Europe. In addition to her accomplishments in feature film production, Grasic’s previous experience includes her work as a finance attorney and as founding COO of Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, where she was responsible for the development and management of the entire bi-coastal operation of the company.
